Running Your Air Conditioner without Refrigerant.
#Refrigerant coolant upgrade#
We have a variety of ways to help make the upgrade more palatable including manufacturer and utility rebates, special financing and loyalty points. Refrigerant, also known as coolant, is a critical component in cooling your space. If your A/C system uses R-22, has had performance issues in the past several years, we recommend being proactive in considering replacing it this summer. There are several advantages to consider upgrading your R-22 system including greater efficiency, reduced cooling costs, improved reliability and better for the environment. In our experience, we found that if a system requires a recharge of R-22, it will typically need more added again in a short amount of time.Īs the supply of R-22 decreases, it may cost hundreds of dollars for only the refrigerant and any future problems would be even more expense. If we cannot identify the source of the problem or if your system requires a large amount of R-22, we typically recommend replacing your unit. We will try to repair the leak if possible. Frozen lines are usually an indicator of a coolant leak. The beginning of the cooling season is when we see most issues related to R-22 arise. The easiest way to check if your central A/C system uses R-22 as a coolant is to look at the data plate on the outdoor condensing unit.

R-22, a refrigerant also known as Freon, was commonly used in the production of air conditioning systems before 2010. Ten years ago, the EPA mandated a complete phase-out of the production or import of R-22 by Januto protect the Earth’s protective ozone layer. How do I know if my central A/C system uses R-22?
